Consider, space, features and budget when shopping for a refrigerator, renovating your kitchen.
Before starting, shopping for new kitchen appliances, make sure you have a well-thought-out plan for your kitchen renovation. Your kitchen questionnaire and kitchen goals worksheet help you identify and prioritize goals throughout your day. You should also have a clear vision of what your new kitchen will look like, after exploring, different kitchen designs and layouts and plan out, space, and storage. Finally, you should have a solid budget to follow.
“The first question, we usually ask a buyer,” says Chapman Logsdon, a regional manager hhgregg, “how is it, not many rooms, they cook for them fridge.” Fridges can vary greatly, depending on overall dimensions, style, brand and model.
Cost range
Buyers can expect to pay $350 for a plain white oven in an enclosed top freezer and as much as $2,500 and up for a spacious, French door bottom freezer with through-door water and smooth stainless shell.
Refrigerator Types
Refrigerators come in three main body configurations: side-by-side, top-mounted, freezer, and bottom-mounted freezer. A new sub-set of the popular French door style bottom-up freezer. Generally, refrigerators increase in capacity and price, along with convenience and style.
Top-mounted freezer
As called because of the freezer-on-top refrigerator configuration, this is the natural choice for buyers with space, and budget constraints, says Logsdon. Prices basically fall in the $400 to $600 range. But, because this model usually offers the least internal capacity (16 to 22 cubic feet), they are ideal for low, large families or those who feed frequently. Also, because, more widely visited, located in the refrigerator area, below the freezer, consumers are forced to turn every time, they need something.
Because this model offers convenient access to both freezers and refrigerators, and more than enough interior space (22 to 26 cubic feet), they are the most popular category on the market. Prices also start in a wide range, around $700 and climb well above, $2,000. Because, side-by-side features a pair of long, narrow doors, great for these appliances, kitchen with little clearance in the house and island. In exchange for improved clearance buyers lose the horizontal shelf most often on the freezer side. Narrow freezers make it difficult to store items like freezers, pizza boxes, and party platters, says Logsdon.
Bottom-mounted freezers
although they usually offer the same space as top-mounted freezers (16 to 23 cubic feet) bottom-mounted freezers are more convenient, because only the main ax is at eye level. Even less easy to get into the freezer, thanks to the pull-out drawer that can be used from both sides (a different door). This comes with the convenience, as a price range of $800 to $1,200 in the fall of most bottom-mount fridges.
French doors
“This style has really grown in popularity over the past five years,” says Logsdon. A subset of the bottom-mounted freezer section, the French door model features two opposing half doors instead of one large refrigerator door, less clearance when open.
Features
As most, advanced with equipment, convenience, flexibility and style at a high price tag. “There are many characteristics, lifestyle dependent,” says Logsdon. Buyers should decide what features are important to them and why. The sleek stainless steel model, for example, comes at a premium of several hundred dollars over the identical, white model.
The through-the-door filter is not only an excellent advantage of water and ice said Logsdon, but in fact it will be eliminated by saving energy, open application door. Just make sure there is a waterline for installation.
Almost all refrigerators have multiple adjustable shelves, but higher models will provide better configuration, more flexibility and explosion-proof shelves with raised edges.
High end models may include, fruit and vegetable crisper bins that are precisely controlled, which are small to simple high-low humidity sliders for permanent settings. A popular trend: a drawer that can be customized for temperature and humidity space in the main fridge compartment and freezer drawer. As with the name “FlexZone” or “Sliding-N-Serve,” this drawer can be set, for cooling, to meat, and less for cold drinks or party platters.
When it comes to temperature control, explains Logsdon, “low-cost refrigerators must have, good old-fashioned with dial numbers and high-priced ones where digital control can set actual temperatures.”
Priced model, north of $2,000 will feature, cooling system for individual, refrigerator and freezer “So you do not have vanilla ice cream, taste like, smoked salmon,” said Logsdon.

Energy use
Residential freeze-up consumes about one-sixth of a home’s electricity consumption. The good news is that today’s appliances are considerably more energy efficient than earlier models. By simply replacing a 10-year-old refrigerator with a newer Energy Star model, buyers will save about $30 off.
